Rome, Italy (Monday, 02-23-2015, Gaudium Press) Her name is Alma Bellotti, but she’s known as ‘Sister Candida.’ She’s fun, witty and she is 107 years old.

She is one of the oldest living nuns in the world, so she’s seen her fair share of the good and the bad. “There’s good and bad in life. There has always been sun and rain.” She says.
She’s very sharp when it comes to important details, like the fact that she’s been a Camillian nun for over 80 years, or that she lives in Tuscany with her fellow sisters. When it comes to less pressing matters, details come and go…
“When was I born? Well, I don’t remember. They told me and they even wrote it down, but I don’t remember” says Sr Candida, “today is your birthday! -Ahhhh! -February 20th, 1906, I mean 1907.”
Being one of the oldest nuns in the world, deserves a big celebration. So, she traveled to Rome and bright and early, she attended Pope Francis’ morning Mass at Casa Santa Marta.
Making it on time wasn’t really a challenge. Her congregation says that every day, at 5:00 a.m sharp, she is the first one in the chapel.
Then she got a well deserved star treatment, with all eyes on her.
She credits living a long and happy life to embracing joy and then there’s also another key element.
Sister Candida comments: “Enjoy it! Live a happy life, but you have to learn to accept. The first lesson is to accept every moment and the will of God.”
She has lived through nine pontificates and when it comes to her favorite Pope, she says she doesn’t have one. She says they’ve all been the right fit at the right time.
“Every sing day we should give thanks to God, because only this can truly make people happy.” And that she says, is the real secret of a long and joyful life.
