Vatican City (Tuesday, 04/07/2015, Gaudium Press) Asia Bibi has become a known worldwide. Paris has declared her an honorary citizen; more than half a million people have signed a petition requesting her freedom. But although this Pakistani woman sentenced to death has not yet glimpsed her freedom, she remains hopeful. She has written another letter to Pope Francis in which she mentions Lent and the Redeemer’s resurrection.
“At Easter Jesus Christ has given us an example of peace and forgiveness. We must all learn from the teachings and the sacrifice of Christ, who was crucified for us and who forgave those who had hurt him,” she writes.
“On this special day I ask Christians in Pakistan to live and pray for peace,” she continues. She also implores the Holy Father to “do a special prayer for peace in the world and for me.”
Joseph Nadeem, her legal counsel, says: “Asia is well both physically and mentally” and “she spends her days between pain and hope, a hope rooted in Christ, which does not leave her”.
Asia Bibi is especially concerned about her family due to the intense insecurity and prays for their safety.
