Archbishop Gallagher will be in Zambia from 7 to 10 November 2015. This was revealed in a communiqué by the Apostolic Nuncio to Zambia and Malawi, Archbishop Julio Murat after he paid a courtesy call on Zambian President, Edgar Lungu at the Zambian state house.
Archbishop Gallagher will visit Zambia to be part of the 50th Anniversary celebrations of the establishment of diplomatic Relations between the Holy See and the Republic of Zambia.
Archbishop Murat assured the Zambian President that, “The Catholic Church was ready to contribute towards the growth of the spiritual and human development of Zambian citizens, without distinction.”
Soon after Zambia’s independence in 1964, the Holy See established diplomatic relations with Zambia in 1965. The first Nuncio appointed to Zambia was Archbishop Alfredo Poledrini who died in 1980 as Apostolic Nuncio Emeritus to Lesotho.
