Sydney, Australia (Monday, 11-30-2015, Gaudium Press) In its fifth year it is now a Sydney tradition. The Lights of Christmas presented by PAYCE. The beautiful 73 meter facade of St Mary’s Cathedral will once again be illuminated with light and animation telling the story of Christmas and conveying the message of peace, of and goodwill.
Every year the amazing 3D digital images projected onto the Cathedral amaze and delight not only Sydneysiders but people watching the live stream from overseas.
This year the event will be launched by the Archbishop of Sydney, Most Rev Anthony Fisher OP at a gala launch on 10 December with the display beginning every night from 8.30om through to and including Christmas Day.
It is free and open to everybody to enjoy.
The story or narrative lasts around 12 minutes and then is repeated right through to around midnight every night to an especially commissioned sound scape.
Hosted by the Archdiocese of Sydney and generously presented by PAYCE, the Lights of Christmas is the creative phenomenon of AGB Events, who curate the Vivid Sydney Light Walk each winter.
This year the Opening Night will feature special guest performances by Paulini, and Naomi Price accompanied by the George Ellis Orchestra.
Every night there will be performances by a range of choirs including the St Mary’s Cathedral Choir on the Opening Night. Choirs performing on the steps of the Cathedral on other nights will include Artes Christi , the Australian Girls Choir and the Street Choir and other musicians from 7.30om right through to Christmas Day.
The Lights feature all aspects of Christmas but each year there is a particular theme
PAYCE General Manager, Dominic Sullivan, said the company was excited to present the free pubic celebration and to support their charity partners for the second year running.
The property and development company will again provide its charity beneficiaries, Matthew Talbot Hostel and the Brown Nurses of Coogee, any proceeds or donations from the event.
Last year PAYCE raised $10,000 for the charities through the sale of Christmas cards showing the lights on the Cathedral.
“The partnership between Lights of Christmas and PAYCE is strengthened by the ties both parties have to the community,” Dominic said.
“The event fosters a sense of unity and togetherness by providing a place for the public to congregate and celebrate, aligning completely with PAYCE’s missio0n to create space that bring people together.
“Providing support to those less fortunate than us, especially as this time of year, is very important to us and we are happy to support the great work o Matthew Talbot Hostel and the Brown Nurses are doing in the community,” Dominic said.
A founding partner and the event’s Education Partner, Australian Catholic University (ACU) believes the Christmas lights are a symbol of hope and joy during a period of global turmoil and suffering.
“Christmas is the time we commemorate the birth of Jesus and an opportunity to reflect on the hope that His birth brought to our world. It is a time for families and communities to join together in thanksgiving and consider how we can work together for the common good of our communities<‘ACU Vice Chancellor Greg Craven said.
Supporting partner Catholic Cemeteries and Crematoria (CCC) will again give away free candles to help visitors and families celebrate this year’s “Light is Life”, an acknowledgement to the UN’s International Year of Life.
Last year gold coin donations from the candles also raised more than $10,0-00 and this year CCC is dedicating donations to post prevention support for families who have suffered loss.
Each year the projections include artwork featuring Mary and the baby Jesus – many from galleries around the world.
