United Kingdom (Wednesday, September 6, 2017, Gaudium Press) Conservative MP Jacob Rees-Mogg has said he opposes abortion in all circumstances, adding: “Life is sacrosanct and begins at the point of conception.”
In an interview with Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain, Rees-Mogg, who some tip as a future party leader, said he opposed abortion, including in instances of rape and incest, adding: “Life begins at the point of conception and abortion is morally indefensible.”
When asked about same-sex marriage, he said: “I am a Catholic and I take the teaching of the Catholic Church seriously,” adding that the Church’s teaching on the issue is “completely clear”.
The Catholic MP has been subject of an online campaign over the recent months to make him the next Conservative Party leader. However, he has laughed off the campaign saying: “I’m not a candidate, there is not a vacancy, I fully support Theresa May and want her to continue.”
Bishop of Portsmouth Philip Egan praised Jacob Rees-Mogg’s comments on Good Morning Britain, saying: “Well done Jacob Rees-Mogg! Thank you so much for standing up for Catholics and clearly yet gently proclaiming the teaching of Christ.”
