Fr. Jose Guadalupe Popoca was killed inside the Church in Morelos after receiving several gunshots to the head.
Newsroom (03/09/2021 10:15 AM, Gaudium Press) On the morning of August 31, the body of Mexican priest Jose Guadalupe Popoca was found lifeless inside the parish church of San Nicolas de Bari, in Galeana, state of Morelos, Mexico. The parish priest was murdered with several gunshots to the head.
Police investigations
Born in Jiutepec, Morelos, on December 12, 1977, Father Jose Guadalupe was ordained a priest on August 15, 2007. He has exercised his priestly ministry in various parishes of the Diocese of Cuernavaca, dedicating his evangelization to young people.
In a video message, Bishop Ramon Castro Castro, Bishop of Cuernavaca, expressed his sadness for what happened and said that he trusted the investigations that are being carried out by the police authorities. He also asked God that Father Jose Guadalupe “enjoy his peace and his glory.”
More than 700 murders and ten kidnappings in 2021
The prelate took the opportunity to denounce the growing violence both in Morelos and in Mexico, stressing that “the community needs to know how to discern what God wants to say to everyone through this type of event. It shakes everyone, making us think and reflect.”
According to the National Public Security System, between January and July 2021, the state of Morelos registered 769 homicides and ten kidnappings. According to Mexico Peace Index 2021, Morelos is the ninth most violent state of the 32 existing in the country. (EPC)
