An intense program of varied events and courses, so that the people of God can be drawn even deeper into Our Lady, has been prepared to celebrate this important anniversary
Assembly of the Marial Academy and Mariological Week
On February 21 and 22, the 31st Assembly of the Marian Academy of Aparecida will be held, following the theme ’40 years glorifying Mary’. One of the highlights of this event is the talk that Father Alberto Pasquoto, C.S.R., will give on the book ‘Glories of Mary’, written by St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori. This publication is 275 years old.
In March, the 5th Mariological Week will be celebrated, with the theme ‘Fraternity and Integral Ecology: Mary, Mother of our Common Home’, in line with this year’s Fraternity Campaign.
Mariological Congress, exhibition and Mass of Thanksgiving
The traditional Mariological Congress is scheduled for May, with the theme “Mary, Mother of Hope”, addressing the connection between Mariology and the Jubilee of the Catholic Church.
There will also be an exhibition presenting the entire history of the Marial Academy of Aparecida over the last 40 years, which will be located in the basement of the Shrine. On July 16, a Mass of Thanksgiving will be celebrated at the Central Altar of the Aparecida Shrine.
Aparecida Marian Academy
On July 16, 1985, during the 11th National Eucharistic Congress, the Academy began its work with a Decree of Creation. Canon João Corrêa Machado was appointed as the first president, with the mission of promoting the structuring and organization of the place.
Based on theological, evangelizing and pastoral knowledge, aided by other research tools and studies on Our Lady, the aim of the initiative is to cultivate and develop devotion to the Patroness of Brazil.
The Academy was created as a center for reflection, research and study of Marian theology and devotion to Our Lady. There, people can have more information and courses on the Faith of the Brazilian people based on Mary’s intercession, God’s plan in our lives and in the life of the Church through Mariology and all the scientific ways of analyzing the Faith.
The current chancellor of the Aparecida Marian Academy is Archbishop Orlando Brandes of Aparecida. The president is the rector of the National Shrine, Father Eduardo Catalfo, C.Ss.R.. The executive director is Redemptorist missionary Father Rosivaldo Motta, C.Ss.R. The institution has 463 active members, who contribute directly to the continuity of the work carried out by the Academy, with the aim of aiding a clearer understanding of the role of the Virgin Mary in the history of salvation and in the life of the Church.
The Aparecida Marian Academy is located on the 11th floor of the Brasília Tower at the National Shrine. It is open to all who work in the Marian dimension or simply wish to deepen their theological and Marian knowledge. (EPC)
