At Cathedral of Cologne, Environmental Activists Disrupt Procession

A group of 30 radical ecologists and activists invaded the Cologne Cathedral and tried to prevent the celebration of Epiphany.

Newsroom (08/01/2022 11:55 AM, Gaudium Press) The Cathedral of Cologne is world-renowned for its procession on the feast of the Epiphany, welcoming pilgrims from all over the country. However, minutes before Mass on  January 6, about thirty people invaded the Cathedral and tried to stop the planned procession.
Despite sanitary protocols established by the authorities, security at the Cathedral could not prevent a group of environmental activists from disrupting the religious celebration using loudspeakers and microphones.

The activists began to chant and shout slogans pro ecology challenging the political and religious authorities’ alleged disinterest regarding the environment.

After being asked to vacate the premises, some demonstrators lay down in the central corridor in an attempt to disrupt the procession and prevent the ceremony from starting. As dialogue failed, protesters had to be escorted or dragged away by security guards.

Minutes later, the celebration resumed the planned schedule. (FM)
