Newsroom – Spain – Avila (February 7, 2022, 1:20 PM, Gaudium Press) On the occasion of the IV centenary of the canonization of Saint Teresa of Jesus, Pope Francis has granted a Jubilee Year to the Spanish Diocese of Avila.
Teresian Jubilee Year
Set to begin on March 12, 2022, with a Eucharistic celebration in the church of the convent of St. Teresa of Jesus, this Jubilee Year will conclude on October 15, 2023. The feast will join the Teresian Jubilee Year, which is celebrated whenever the feast of this Doctor of the Church falls on a Sunday.
Plenary Indulgence
According to the Diocese of Avila, the decree of the Apostolic Penitentiary grants a plenary indulgence to the faithful who visit the church of the convent of Saint Teresa of Jesus and follow the traditional conditions: sacramental confession, Eucharistic Communion and prayer for the Pope’s intentions.
Spiritual greatness of St. Teresa of Jesus
The local church also thanked Pope Francis for the Jubilee Year that has been granted, pointing out that “it will help to continue bringing us even closer to the spiritual greatness of St. Teresa of Jesus, a reference figure for every Christian who invites us to keep in mind Christ’s demand: ‘Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.'” (EPC)
