Bishop Franz Jung feels that the Roman Curia is under considerable pressure over the issue of the German Synodal Path.
Newsroom (November 29, 2022, 11:00 AM, Gaudium Press) Bishop Franz Jung is pro-German Synodal Way. This helps to understand his statement, after the recent visit of 62 German bishops to Rome, that German “thoroughness” has had a “chilling effect” on the Roman Curia.
The bishop says he has the impression that “the Curia is also under considerable pressure because of the criticism received in Rome about the Synodal Way of the Church in Germany.” Something that is confirmed by the criticism of Cardinal Ouellet and Cardinal Ladaria expressed last Friday during a meeting at the Agustinianum Institute, when they presented two separate theological reports on the subject.
Msgr. Jung says that it was “not” possible to diminish the Roman Curia’s concerns about the Synodal Way. And that the German bishops were able, in Rome, to avoid a “moratorium” of the Synod, which is understood as a temporary suspension of the Synod. The Synod is proceeding as scheduled.
However, after the Ad Limina visit, he concludes that “the fear that Germany will leave the network of the universal Church was really noticeable.”
