Father Donizetti became a parish priest famous for his miracles, attracting thousands of pilgrims from all over Brazil to the city of Tambaú in the state of São Paulo, where they came seeking his blessing.
Newsdesk (16/06/2021 21:50, Gaudium Press) Today, June 16, the Catholic Church celebrates the memory of Blessed Father Donizetti. Born on January 3, 1882 in Cassia, Minas Gerais, Brazil, he moved with his family to Franca, São Paulo, when he was four years old.
Priestly Ordination
At the age of 15 he entered the Preparatory Course at the Episcopal Seminary of São Paulo. On July 12, 1908, upon completing studies of Philosophy and Theology, he was ordained a priest in Pouso Alegre, Minas Gerais.
This priest served in various parishes, including São Caetano, in Pouso Alegre; Santa Maria, in Jaguariúna; Sant’Ana, in Vargem Grande do Sul. On May 24, 1926, he was appointed parish priest of Santo Antônio Parish, in Tambaú (SP).
In Tambaú, Father Donizetti worked for 35 years, embracing a life of austerity, together with a great Eucharistic devotion that he encouraged, and a filial devotion to the Patroness of Brazil, Our Lady of Aparecida.
Miracles of Blessed Father Donizetti
Father Donizetti became famous for the miracles achieved through his intercession, attracting thousands of pilgrims from all over Brazil who traveled to the city of Tambaú to receive his blessing and witness with their own eyes the miracles of the pious priest who already had a reputation for sanctity.
He died on June 16, 1961, at the age of 79, in Tambaú, the same city in which he was famous for his holiness. The miraculous events were countless and they continued after his death, all of them being registered in the ‘miracle room’.
Even today, reports of healings and miracles through the intercession of Blessed Donizetti continue. The ecclesial authorities analyze each one of them to confirm whether or not the miracles and other divine favors granted by God are through the intercession of the priest from Minas Gerais.
Beatification of Father Donizetti
In April 2019, Pope Francis authorized the Congregation for the Causes of Saints to publish the decree that recognized a miracle attributed to the intercession of Father Donizetti Tavares de Lima, thus granting approval for his beatification. The beatification ceremony took place in the city of Tambaú on November 23, 2019.
The recognized miracle was experienced by Bruno Henrique Arruda de Oliveira, born in 2006 with a deformity known as ‘bilateral congenital clubfoot’, a condition considered difficult to treat. The child was healed after his mother prayed for the intercession of Father Donizetti. (EPC)
