Bishop Rolando Álvarez has been arrested. Nicaraguan Police took him to an unknown location.
Newsroom (19/08/2022 11:15 PM Gaudium Press) During the early hours of Friday 19, the Regime of Daniel Ortega invaded the episcopal house of Matagalpa. It arrested Bishop Rolando Álvarez, along with seven seminarians and a layman.
The arrest took place at 3:20 AM local time. The Bishop was forced into a vehicle belonging to the Nicaraguan military forces. The seminarians and the layman were transferred to different vehicles. Hundreds of people gathered in front of the Church after hearing the bells ringing the alarm.
Uncertainty over Bishop’s fate
The Diocese of Matagalpa posted a message on its official Facebook profile alerting the faithful: “At this moment, the National Police have entered the Episcopal Curia of our Diocese of Matagalpa,” the message reads.
Human Rights activists fear for the Bishop and the seminarians, taken to an undisclosed location. (EPC)
