Three deacons were to be ordained in this ceremony, which would be presided over by Most Rev. Carlos Herrera, Bishop of Jinotega and president of the Episcopal Conference of Nicaragua.

Managua – Nicaragua (30/07/2024 11:55, Gaudium Press) The dictatorial regime of Daniel Ortega forced the cancellation of a priestly ordination ceremony that was scheduled to take place last Saturday, July 27, in Estelí, Nicaragua. Three deacons were to be ordained priests in this celebration.

Cancellation due to unclear reasons

“With a heart full of hope, joy, and spiritual health, I want to inform that the priestly ordination of this unworthy servant of the Lord has been canceled for reasons that are still unclear, but that are external to our lives,” reported Deacon Wendel Fuentes Chavarria through an article in the Nicaraguan newspaper Mosaico.

The Deacon urged the newspaper’s readers to continue praying for priestly vocations and expressed his hope that “soon God will allow us to serve this Diocese more and better as priests.”

Ceremony would be presided over by Bp. Carlos Herrera

On Thursday, July 25, the newspaper Mosaico had already reported that  according to anonymous ecclesiastical sources local police had canceled the priestly ordination ceremony.

The ceremony would be presided over by Most Rev. Carlos Herrera, Bishop of Jinotega and president of the Episcopal Conference of Nicaragua. The deacons to be ordained were: Wendel Fuentes Chavarria, Kelin José Martínez Rayo, and Ervin Joel Hernández Umanzor.
