Newsroom (02/09/2021 6:50 PM , Gaudium Press) After three days in the power of kidnappers, the Vicar General of the Diocese of Mamfe, Father Julius Agbortoko, has been released without having to make any ransom payment.
Priest kidnapped on Sunday
The information was confirmed by the chancellor of the diocese, Father Sébastien Sinju. “We thank the Most High who kept Father Julius Agbortoko Agbor safe during his arrest and brought him back to us safe and sound,” said Father Sinju, who also thanked the Christians who were united in prayer.
The Vicar General of the Diocese of Mamfe, Father Julius Agbortoko, was kidnapped last Sunday, 29th while returning from Kokobuma, where he had made a pastoral visit and participated in the inauguration of the parish presbytery.
Kidnappers demanded 30 thousand euros
The kidnappers, who identified themselves as separatist fighters, stormed the compound of the Major Seminary and left, taking the young Father Agbortoko with them. To release the priest, they demanded 20 million CFA francs, the equivalent of 30,000 euros.
