Cardinal Odilo stressed that the purpose of the exposition is to remember the person of Dom Paulo Evaristo Arns and not any ideas or re-reading of his deeds.

Newsroom – São Paulo (November 3, 2021, 9:40 PM, Gaudium Press) Last Thursday morning, October 28, an exhibition was inaugurated in the Basilica Minor of Santana, located in the North Zone of São Paulo, in honor of Cardinal Arns (1921-2016), entitled “From Hope to Hope – Itinerary and Ecclesiology in the Pastoral Care of Dom Paulo Evaristo Arns”.

Photo exhibition narrates the life of Cardinal Arns

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Cardinal Odilo Pedro Scherer, Metropolitan Archbishop; Monsignor Jorge Pierozan, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese in the Santana Region; Father José Roberto Abreu de Mattos, Pastor and Rector of the Minor Basilica of Sant’Ana, who is one of the exhibition’s curators, as well as Professor José Ulisses Leva, Church historian, both professors at PUC-SP.

The exhibition consists of 40 photographs, displayed on 20 totems in the side aisles, with descriptions of the images and words said by Cardinal Arns on different occasions. In total, more than one hundred images were cataloged, among the archives of the parish and of the Metropolitan Curia of São Paulo, of the Santo Américo College Memory Center, and of the photographers Douglas Mansur and Luciney Martins.

The exhibit will last until September 2022

During the ceremony, Dom Odilo emphasized that the objective of the exhibition is to remember the person of Dom Paulo Evaristo Arns and not eventual ideas or rereadings that people may have about his deeds. “This exhibition will help to remember the life and the service rendered by Cardinal Arns, therefore giving due recognition to him, but, above all, to what ends up remaining for history as a patrimony, as good of the Church, that remains for the memory for the generations that will come after us,” he emphasized.

According to the organizers, this exhibition will be available until September 2022, however, during this period, it will not remain only in the Minor Basilica of Santana. The idea is that it will be taken to other dioceses and places that agree to receive it for certain periods so that it can reach a greater number of people. (EPC)
