Catholic Medical Associations Meet in the Assisi Shrine

Newsroom – Assisi – Italy (June 15, 2022, 3:10 PM, Gaudium Press) From May 27 to 29, the symposium days of the European Federation of Catholic Medical Associations were held in Assisi, Italy.

The challenges of skills and compassion in contemporary medicine

The event, which followed the theme “The challenges of skills and compassion in contemporary medicine,” was attended by about one hundred delegates from 21 national Catholic medical associations in Europe.

A total of 28 speakers gave reflections on the role of compassion in the various areas of medical practice: from hospitals to local medicine, from hospices to university polyclinics. Bishop Francesco Savino, Bishop of Cassano all’Jonio and Vice President of CEI was one of the speakers present.

Contribution of European Catholic Doctors

The President of the Pontifical Academy for Life, Bishop Vincenzo Paglia, gave a ‘lectio magistralis’ on “The synodal path in Europe: expectations and perspectives in the health sector”. This event is the contribution of European Catholic doctors to the Catholic Church’s synodal path.

The inaugural liturgical celebration was presided over by Bishop Simon Kulli, Bishop of Sape – Albania, in the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, and the final celebration was presided over by Bishop Domenico Sorrentino, Bishop of Assisi, in the upper part of St. Francis Basilica. (EPC)
