Rome, Italy (April 30, 2024) – This past Saturday morning, April 27, marked a significant event at the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls in Rome. Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, led the priestly ordination of twenty members of the Legionaries of Christ. These new priests hail from diverse countries including Germany, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, South Korea, Spain, the United States, Mexico, and Venezuela.
The ceremony showcased a blend of universal brotherhood and spiritual commitment, with concelebrations by Father John Connor, General Superior of the Congregation; Bishop Brian Farrell, emeritus secretary of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity; and Bishop Robert Fisher, auxiliary of the Archdiocese of Detroit.
Being a Friend of Jesus
In his homily, Cardinal Tagle inspired the new priests to embody friendship with Jesus, emphasizing open-hearted dialogue and attentive listening to His words. He highlighted the importance of remaining compassionate brethren to all, noting that such relationships are foundational for a priesthood that builds God’s family in unity and common mission.
