Rio de Janeiro (September 13, 2021 2:25 PM Gaudium Press) A blessed encounter of two important symbols of the Brazilian Catholicity took place last Wednesday, September 8: the pilgrim image of Our Lady of Nazareth was brought to the Christ the Redeemer, in Rio de Janeiro.
12th edition of the Cirio of Nazareth in Rio de Janeiro
The act occurred on the occasion of the closing of the 12th edition of the Cirio of Nazareth in Rio de Janeiro. The Marian image coming from the Archdiocese of Belém, in Pará, went on pilgrimage through the Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro, since last Sunday, the 5th.
The first time that the image of the Queen of the Amazon was in the sanctuary of Christ the Redeemer was in 2011, exactly ten years ago. This Marian pilgrimage has taken place in Rio de Janeiro since 2009, the year in which Cardinal Orani João Tempesta took over the Archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro.
Following Our Lady’s example
The ceremony of prayer and blessing with the image of Our Lady of Nazareth was presided at the feet of Christ the Redeemer by Bishop Juarez Delorto Secco, auxiliary bishop of Rio de Janeiro. The prelate emphasized that Our Lady presents Jesus to us.
The Bishop also exhorted the faithful to follow Our Lady’s example. “As Mary welcomed Jesus into her life, may each one of us welcome the Lord into our lives, may we be God’s presence in the world today,” he concluded. (EPC)
