Theme and motto of the Month of the Bible

The theme chosen for this jubilee of the “Month of the Bible” is the Letter of St. Paul to the Galatians, while the motto is “You are all one in Christ Jesus“, taken from the ‘baptismal hymn‘ described in Galatians 3, 26-28 when Paul affirms that we are all sons and daughters of God.

The advisor to the CNBB’s Commission for the Ordained Ministries and Consecrated Life, Father Jânison de Sá, stressed that “It is very important that all pastoral activities and ecclesial movements give priority to the centrality of the Word of God and the Bible. May the Word of God be, in fact, the soul, or better: may it animate all our evangelizing and catechetical activities.”

The origin of the Month of the Bible

The Month of the Bible was created in the Archdiocese of Belo Horizonte in 1971 on the occasion of the celebration of its fiftieth anniversary. The initiative came from the Paulist Sisters through their Biblical Animation Service. Later, the CNBB took up the event as a national proposal.

The reason for the Month of the Bible is to encourage the development, in a variety of forms, of the use of the Sacred Scriptures in the evangelizing action of the Church. In addition, it aims at mobilizing the deepening and living of the Word, through an itinerary with a specific theme for each year. (EPC)
