Fifty people kidnapped, two dead, pharmacies looted, health center, trucks set on fire: this is the balance of the attack carried out by the rebel group ADF-Nalu in Kabasha.
Newsroom (14/12/2022 2:00 PM, Gaudium Press) The inhabitants of Kabasha, a locality located in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, were surprised on the night of November 8 to November 9 by the Islamic extremist group Alliance of Democratic Forces (ADF-Nalu) which killed, looted, set fire to, kidnapped and committed other acts of barbarism before fleeing.
Father Roger Malengera, pastor of the nearby town of Maboya, where a similar attack by the same ADF-Nalu group took place three weeks ago, described the situation and urged the authorities to ensure the safety of the population and their property.
“The bandits came as usual. They were armed. It was around 1am in the morning. They started by attacking the police station. Then they started shooting everywhere in Kabasha, forcing doors and looting all the stores and pharmacies.”
Near the Catholic parish of Our Lady of Fatima in this locality, the robbers killed at close range an elderly woman, who could not escape due to her age. A baby was also found suffocated dead in the local health center.
“As if that wasn’t enough, they went to the CBCA Protestant Health Center, Baptist Community in Central Africa, burned the building: surgery center, maternity ward, etc., just like in Maboya. They looted everything, then fled and kidnapped about fifty people, including the doctor of the hospital center,” continued the priest.
Among the main damages, the priest reported the burning of three large trucks, goods, cars, vehicles carrying vegetables, and stores in the square.
According to Father Malengera, the assailants are none other than those of the extremist group ADF-Nalu: “It’s a story that has lasted for more than 8 years, they are the same bandits, who have the same modus operandi.[?] All these atrocities give “the impression that misfortune has become our daily bread. We are being killed little by little,” he lamented.
Malengera asked not to lose hope, not to give up, because “evil will not always triumph. God is here, one day the enemy will be confounded.”
