Rome – Italy (12/11/2024 19:57, Gaudium Press) From November 11 to 14, the Patristic Institute Augustinianum in Rome will host a series of conferences on the theme ‘There is no greater love. Martyrdom and the offering of life’. The prologue will be given by Monsignor Antonio Pitta, vice-rector of the Lateran University.
Deepening the Reality of Martyrdom in Different Contexts
According to the text promoting the event published on the Dicastery’s website, the aim of the series of conferences is to deepen the reality of martyrdom in the historical, cultural and social contexts of the 21st century. The other area of study deals with the new case of the causes of beatification and canonization, that is, the offering of life, approved by Pope Francis on July 11, 2017.
Martyrdom in the Life of the Church
On the afternoon of Monday, November 11, Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, prefect of the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints, and the vice-rector of the Lateran University, Professor Antonio Pitta, will open the proceedings with a conference entitled ‘A greater love: giving one’s life’. This will be followed by a talk on ‘Martyrdom in the life of the Church’.
Martyrdom in film production
The conferences on Tuesday, November 12, will be dedicated to the theme of hatred against the Christian faith today from different social and geographical contexts and to martyrdom in other Christian denominations. There will also be a presentation on the theme of martyrdom in film production.
The offer of life and contemporary anthropology
The talks on Wednesday, November 13, will deal with the following themes: “The offer of life and contemporary anthropology”, “A historical part and re-reading of some experiences of holiness in the light of the offer of life”, “Theological and procedural aspects of the offer of life”. The conclusions will be proposed by Cardinal Semeraro. The event will close on November 14. (EPC)
