The diocese of Ouagadougou, capital of Burkina Faso, is promoting “Bible camp” in several parishes.

Biblical camp is an initiative of the religious of the Assumption

The “Bible Camp” is a program promoted for young people during school vacations to encourage the reading and study of the Sacred Scriptures.

The biblical camp was born from the initiative of the religious of the Assumption to make “the Bible known to all children and that they can study it”, explained Sister Yvette Monenou, a religious of the Assumption.

Last week, the parish of St. John Mary Vianney held the solemn inauguration of the fourth edition of the Bible camp. The parish’s Bible camp already has 400 children enrolled.

The Holy Scriptures studied in detail

The editions of the Bible Camp follow the chronological order of the biblical narration. Thus, the first editions of the event dealt with the book of Genesis, and so on.

In the fourth edition of the St. John Mary Vianney parish, the study themes will be the life of David and Saul.

The Bible Camp in the St. John Vianney parish follows a set schedule that combines prayer, study, and activities.

Program: Prayer, study, and activities

A period of prayer is organized with meditation and recitation of the rosary, followed by the celebration of the Eucharist. After this, the children participate in Bible studies where they work in teams.

Among the participants are children as young as 5 years old who want to know more details about David’s life, as is the case of 5-year-old Darel Ouédraogo.

Or like Ange-Maeva Zemba, 13, who is participating in the fourth consecutive edition of the Bible Camp.

An exhibition to show the new knowledge

At the end of the activities, the children are sent on a mission, and they must expose the knowledge they have acquired during the Bible Camp in a presentation to their own parents.

Other training such as children’s pedagogy, drawing techniques and interpretation, and theater are also offered during the Bible Camp.
