Preparing for Easter (Holy Thursday)

Passion Clock – 6 p.m.

Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover meal for us.” They asked him: “Where do you want us to prepare it?” He answered, “As you enter the city, you will find a man carrying a jug of water; follow him into the house where he enters. Say to him, “The Master asks you: ‘Where is the room where I will eat the Passover with my disciples?'”

Jesus washes His disciples’ feet

Passion Clock – 7 p.m.

Jesus got up from the table, laid down His clothes and took a towel and girded Himself with it. Then He poured water into a basin and began to wash His disciples’ feet and wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. When He had washed their feet and taken their clothes, He sat down again at the table and said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord, and you say so correctly, because I am.”

Jesus institutes the Eucharist

Passion Clock – 8 p.m.

During the meal, Jesus took bread, blessed it, broke it and gave it to His disciples, saying, “Take and eat, this is My body.” Then He took the cup, gave thanks and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you, for this is My blood, the blood of the new covenant, shed for many for the remission of sins.”

Passion Clock – 9 p.m.

‘Lord, my God, by day I cry out to you, and by night I address my lament to you. May my prayer reach you, incline your ear to my supplication. My soul is filled with evil, and my life is near the region of the dead.’ Jesus withdrew with them to a place called Gethsemane and said to them, “Sit here while I go and pray.”

Jesus goes into His Agony and perspires blood

Passion Clock – 10 p.m.

He went away for the second time and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to pass without My drinking it, Your will be done! He returned and found them asleep again, because their eyes were heavy.

Jesus receives Judas’ kiss

Passion Clock – 11 p.m.

Jesus was still speaking when Judas, one of the Twelve, came and with him a crowd of people armed with swords and clubs, sent by the chief priests and the elders of the people. He immediately approached Jesus and said, “Hail, Master.” And then he kissed Him. Jesus said to him, “Judas, do you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?”

Jesus is arrested

Passion Clock – Midnight (Good Friday)

As Jesus knew everything that was going to happen to Him, He came forward and asked them, “Whom do you seek?” They answered, “Jesus of Nazareth.” “I am He,” He told them. When He said to them, “I am He,” they recoiled and fell to the ground.

Jesus is led to Annas

Passion Clock – 1 a.m.

The high priest asked Jesus about His disciples and their teaching. Jesus answered him, “I have spoken publicly to the world. I have taught in the synagogue and in the temple, where the Jews gather, and I have spoken nothing in secret. Why do you ask me?”

Jesus is handed over to Caiaphas

Passion Clock – 2 a.m. – 3 a.m.

Then some stood up and bore false witness against Him, saying, “We heard Him say, ‘I will destroy this temple made with hands, and in three days I will build another, not made with hands.'” But Jesus kept silent and answered nothing.

Jesus is denied by Peter

Passion Clock – 3 a.m. – 4 a.m.

Shortly afterwards, those who were there approached Peter and said, “Yes, you are one of those people; your way of speaking makes you known.” Peter then began to curse, swearing that he didn’t even know the Man. Just then the cock crowed.

The Sanhedrin seek the death of Jesus

Passion Clock – 4 a.m. – 5 a.m.

The elders of the people, the chief priests and the scribes gathered together and ordered Jesus to be brought before their council. They asked Him, “Are you the Son of God?” He answered, “Yes, I am.” Then they said, “Do we still need a witness?”


Jesus is taken to Pilate

Passion Clock – 5 a.m. – 6 am

From the house of Caiaphas they led Jesus to the Praetorium. It was early in the morning. Pilate entered the Praetorium, called Jesus and asked him, “Are You the King of the Jews? Your nation and the high priests have handed You over to me. What have You done?” Jesus answered, “My Kingdom is not of this world.”

Jesus is despised by Herod

Passion Clock – 6 a.m. – 7 a.m.

When Pilate learnt that Jesus came under Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod. But Herod, with his guard, treated Him with contempt, mocked Him, and had Him clothed in a white robe…

Herod returns Jesus to Pilate

Passion Clock – 7 a.m. – 8 a.m.

Pilate said to them, “You presented this man to me as an agitator of the people, but when I questioned Him before you, I did not find Him guilty. Neither did Herod, for he returned Him to us. Therefore, I will release Him after I have chastised Him.”

Jesus is scourged

Passion Clock – 8 a.m. – 9 a.m.

Pilate then ordered Jesus to be scourged. The soldiers led Him into the courtyard, that is, into the Praetorium, where they summoned the whole cohort. And they surrounded Him with the whole platoon.

Jesus is crowned with thorns

Passion Clock – 9 a.m. – 10 a.m.

They tore off His clothing and put a scarlet robe on Him. Then they wove a crown of thorns, put it on His head and put a rod in His hand. They spat in His face and, taking the rod, struck Him on the head.

Jesus is condemned to death

Passion Clock – 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.

Pilate said to the Jews, “Here is your king!” But they cried out, “Away with Him! Away with Him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” And they shouted all the louder, “Let Him be crucified!”

Jesus receives the Cross

Passion Clock – 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Then they took Him away to be crucified. He Himself carried His Cross out of the city, towards the place called Calvary, which means in Hebrew, Golgotha.

Jesus is Crucified

Passion Clock – 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

After the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took His clothing and divided them into four, one for each soldier. The tunic, however, was woven from top to bottom and was seamless. They said, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, to see whose it will be.”

Jesus leaves us Mary for our Mother

Passion Clock – 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

When Jesus saw His Mother and the disciple he loved standing near Her, He said to His Mother, “Woman, behold your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Here is your Mother.” And from that moment on, the disciple took Her into his home.

Jesus dies on the Cross

Passion Clock – 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Then, when Jesus knew that all was accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, He said, “I thirst.” There was a jar full of vinegar. The soldiers filled a sponge with vinegar and put it on a hyssop branch and put it to His mouth. When Jesus had taken the vinegar, He said, “It is finished.” Then Jesus gave a great shout and said, “Father, into your hands I commend My spirit.”

Jesus is pierced by the spear

Passion Clock – 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The soldiers came and broke the legs of the first criminal and the other, who were crucified with Him. But when they came to Jesus, seeing Him already dead, one of the soldiers opened His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.

Jesus in Mary’s arms

Passion Clock – 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

There was a man named Joseph, a member of the council, an upright and just man. He did not agree with the others’ decisions or their actions. Originally from Arimathea, a town in Judea, he was waiting for the Kingdom of God. He went to Pilate and asked him for Jesus’ body.

Jesus is buried

Passion Clock – 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

In the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had yet been laid. It was there that they laid Jesus because of the preparation for the Sabbath of the Jews, and the proximity of the tomb.
