France: Consacrated Host Stolen

According to parishioners, traditions of witchcraft and occult practices are rooted in this region. The sacrilegious vandalism may have been committed “with a satanic purpose.”

Newsroom (18/03/2022 9:25 AM, Gaudium Press) The desecration occurred last Monday, March 14, in the church of Saint-Martin in Courcoury, in the La Rochelle region. The perpetrators broke into the tabernacle and stole a big host regularly placed in the monstrance for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

The target of the vandals was Christ himself. “This new spear driven into the side of Christ wounds the entire Catholic Church of Charente-Maritime area,” declared Bishop Georges Colomb of La Rochelle. In a statement, the prelate “condemns with the greatest severity this act of pure hatred and denounces a very grave sacrilege committed against Christ and his Church.” And he invites all to pray for the community of Courcoury and the perpetrators, be they irresponsible or malevolent.

The diocese of La Rochelle has experienced several sacrilegious attacks in recent years. According to parishioners, there are traditions of witchcraft and occult practices rooted in this region. This theft was committed “with a satanic purpose,” local sources have warned.

Bishop Colomb will celebrate a Mass of Reparation on Tuesday, March 22, at 6:45 PM local time in the church of Courcoury.

Meanwhile, a police investigation is underway.
