Francis Encourages Entrepreneurs to Be Closer to Their Assistants

At the Vatican’s Clementine Hall, Francis addressed a message to a group of French entrepreneurs and businessmen on how to be a leader according to the heart of God.

Newsroom (08/01/2022 2:40 PM, Gaudium Press) Last Friday, January 7, Pope Francis received a group of French entrepreneurs from the diocese of Fréjus-Toulon.

The meeting took place at the Clementine Hall, where Francis addressed them.

The Pope conveyed that nowadays, being a leader according to the heart of God is a real challenge. And yet, this is possible thanks to two pairs of concepts: “ideal and reality” and “authority and service,” the Pope explained.

“Ideal v. reality”

According to Francis, the economic system is far from the evangelical ideal. This reality could dishearten the faith and conscience of businessmen who desire an ideal while facing a diverse reality.

In this regard, Mary’s example is crucial, for she “preserved and meditated in her heart.” She was aware of reality but found the meaning of things in prayer.

“Authority and service”

Regarding “authority and service,” Francis urged businessmen to be closer to their assistants:

“Be close to those who assist you at any level. Take an interest in their lives, be aware of their difficulties, their sorrows, their worries, but also their joys, projects and hopes,” the Pope explained.

Francis went on to explain that exercising authority means sharing, keeping in mind that “everyone is special in the eyes of God.” (FM)
