Ireland’s consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus took place in May 1873 and will be renewed 152 years later.

Ireland (13/02/2025 15:00, Gaudium Press) Last Friday, February 7, the Catholic Church in Ireland began an initiative entitled ‘Sacred Heart Crusade’, through which four images of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, blessed by Pope Francis on January 8 at the Vatican, will make a pilgrimage through the country’s parishes.

Renewal of Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

This work of evangelization is part of the celebrations on the occasion of the Jubilee of Hope and will conclude on June 22 with a ceremony presided over by the Archbishop of Armagh, Archbishop Eamon Martin, Primate of Ireland, in which the consecration of the country to the Sacred Heart of Jesus will be renewed.

The “Crusade” began in Ulster with the celebration of a Holy Mass in honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, presided over by Archbishop Kevin Gillespie, Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Raphoe, in St. Eunan’s Cathedral in County Donegal. Earlier, on February 2, a concert was held in Abbeyleix in honor of this devotion.

Revitalizing Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

The images of the Sacred Heart of Jesus will be displayed in the four provinces of Ireland: Leinster, Munster, Connaught and Ulster. One of the organizers of the initiative, Caroline Holmes, hopes that during this ‘crusade’ “graces will be poured out on all pilgrims of hope”.

The promoters of the initiative also hope that devotion to the Sacred Heart will be revitalized and serve as a reminder and proclamation of the promises that were revealed in 1675 to Saint Mary Margaret Alacoque. Ireland’s consecration to the Sacred Heart took place in May 1873. (EPC)
