Ivory Coast was Consecrated to Our Lady for the Third Time

The event is the result of a consensus between the four rectors of the country’s major Marian shrines.

Yamussucro – Ivory Coast (28/09/2023 17:01, Gaudium Press)  On Saturday, September 30, Ivory Coast will once again be placed in the merciful hands of Our Lady. This is the third time that the country has been officially consecrated to the Mother of God, the first having been presided over by Pope St. John Paul II.

The Country’s Four Great Marian Shrines

The event was the result of the consensus of the four rectors of the country’s major Marian shrines: the National Marian Shrine of Abidjan, Our Lady of Africa Mother of All Graces in Abidjan Attécoubé; the Shrine of Our Lady of the Guard in Bonoua, in the Diocese of Grand-Bassam; the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Delivery in Issia, in the Diocese of Daloa, and the Shrine of Divine Mercy in Raviart, in the Diocese of Yamoussoukro.

They justify their decision on the grounds that, according to them, the country is going through a marked degradation of moral and human values. “It’s time to give Our Lady back her rightful place in the heart of this country, so that God can help us get out of these degrading life situations,” said Father Eugène Adingra.

This was the third time the country has been consecrated to Our Lady

On the day of the consecration of Côte d’Ivoire to Our Lady, the country’s four major Marian shrines held a simultaneous day of prayer. The main moment of this period of prayer was from 12 noon with the recitation of the Angelus. “At that exact time we will be able to stop at the shrines to recite this prayer, which was followed by the consecration prayer,” said Father Adingra.
