Newsroom (September 24, 2020 8:00pm Gaudium Press) — Prime Minister Boris Johnson declares himself a Catholic, although he has at times claimed that his faith is somewhat fickle.
The controversial figure, head of government since July of last year, who has had a stormy marital life, wanted to baptize his son Wilfred Johnson in the Roman Catholic Church.
Wilfred, the youngest of six children he has with different women, was born on April 29th and was baptized on September 12th. “We can confirm that Wilfred Johnson was baptized in Westminster Cathedral on September 12th, 2020, in a private ceremony, with the presence of his parents and a small number of guests, following the current norms of Covid-19,” says a communiqué from the Archdiocese of Westminster.
The sacrament was administered by Fr. Daniel Humphreys, the Cathedral’s administrator, in the chapel of Our Lady.
In times of difficulty people remember their religious beliefs. Perhaps this has happened with the Prime Minister, who on April 6 was admitted to St. Thomas Hospital following complications from Covid 19. By the end of that month, he returned to his duties as head of the British government.
