This specialization is aimed at those who wish to be trained as postulators or to collaborate in the examination of candidates for the altars.
Newsdesk, Italy – Rome (July 28, 2021, Gaudium Press) The Pontifical Lateran University will begin, starting next academic year, the activities of the School of Advanced Formation for the Causes of the Saints. This specialization is aimed at those who wish to be formed as postulators or collaborate in the treatment of candidates to the altars.
The course will last for two years, after which the students will receive a specialization diploma. According to the University, this qualification will allow the graduates to assist dioceses, religious institutes or the Congregation itself in the complex process that leads to the definition of model figures of Christian life, who are worthy of being proposed by the Pope for the veneration of the Church.
Course will replace ‘Studium’ of the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints
This new specialization will replace the previous annual ‘Studium’ course of the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints, established in June 1984 by Pope Saint John Paul II. The aim of this course is to train specialists in the field from a theological, historical-hagiographical and normative point of view.
The Lateran University, following Pope Francis’ request, will be in charge of the training of those who choose to undertake what the university defines as ‘service’. Subjects of study will be linked to theology, ancient, medieval and modern Church history, the institutions of canon law, the theological and juridical foundations of canonized holiness, and the history of the law of the causes of saints.
