Pope Francis’ prayer intentions for the month of December encourage us to pray especially for catechists and their mission.

Newsroom (1/12/2021 11:02 AM, Gaudium Press) In the last Video Message of this year, Francis conveys a message of appreciation for catechists.

In the video, the Pope explains the critical mission of the catechist: “Catechists have an invaluable mission for the transmission and growth of the faith.”

According to Francis, to be a catechist ‘is a vocation; it’s a mission… It’s an entire way of being.” Catechists are called to be “creative people who proclaim the Gospel, but who proclaim it neither with a mute nor with a loudspeaker, but rather with their life, with gentleness, with a new language, and opening new ways,” he stressed.

Francis recalls that in many dioceses throughout the continents, evangelization takes place through the work of catechists. The Pope thanks those men and women who teach catechism and contribute to the life and mission of the Church.

Let us pray – he concluded- “for the catechists, summoned to announce the Word of God: may they be its witnesses, with courage and creativity and in the power of the Holy Spirit, with joy and much peace.” (FM)
