Like a balloon

The fact is that the proud are full of themselves, but what fills them? St. Alphonsus gives an obvious answer.

Newsroom (29/09/2024 15:17, Gaudium Press): “The proud are like a balloon full of wind that feels big in front of itself. All his greatness is reduced to a little air that quickly expires when the balloon breaks. Those who love God are truly humble. He doesn’t take pride in seeing some good qualities in himself. He knows that everything he has is a gift from God; all he has is nothing and sin. That’s why, knowing the gifts granted by God, he humbles himself all the more, feeling unworthy and so favored by God.

St. Teresa of Jesus, speaking of the special graces granted to her by God, says: “God does with me what he does with a house about to fall: he props it up with struts.

Oh, if only we could understand the value of humility! One act of humility is worth more than all the riches in the world.
