Today, the celebrations of the “Theresian Week” are hosting the veneration of the relics of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus
France – Lisieux ( October 2, 2021 15:30 PM, Gaudium Press) The diocese of Bayeux-Lisieux celebrates the feast of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus within the ‘Theresian week,’ an event started in 1994. Lisieux is the city that witnessed the sanctity and sufferings of the young Carmelite. This year, the Theresian Week began on September 24 and will conclude on October 3.
Plays, cultural events and the veneration of the relics
Presided over by Most Rev. Jacques Habert, Bishop of Bayeux-Lisieux), the Theresian Week includes cultural and religious events such as plays, musical presentations, recitation of the rosary, processions, visits to the basilica, recitation of the holy hours in the Carmelite Convent, veneration of Saint Theresa’s relics and Holy Masses.
Today, October 1, after the Solemn Mass, pilgrims will once again be able to venerate the Saint’s relics and participate in the recitation of vespers in the Carmel.
Pilgrims from all over the World
Although the “Theresian week” is an annual event, last year the pandemic prevented many pilgrims from joining the celebrations.
As per this week, the Shrine’s press office has verified a significant increase in participants, at approximately 30,000 pilgrims. City accommodations are full.
Every year, Lisieux receives almost a million pilgrims. (FM)
