France – Lourdes (June 11, 2021 17:20,Gaudium Press)- After spending several months closed due to health restrictions, the Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes, located in southern France, is promoting events to attract pilgrims.
One of these initiatives, called ‘Lourdes Nights’, consists of concerts, Marian candlelight processions and Eucharistic celebrations in front of the famous grotto of Lourdes. The proposal, which will begin on July 1, will take place every evening.
The program aims to revive visits to the Sanctuary of Lourdes
“Lourdes Nights” are part of a more extensive program called “Lourdes Summer”, an ambitious project undertaken by the Marian Sanctuary in conjunction with the town of Lourdes and the police authorities geared to revive visits to the Shrine.
A light show will illuminate, during the processions, the entire Basilica of the Rosary and the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. According to Msgr. Olivier Ribadeau Dumas, rector of the Shrine, pilgrims will “experience something unique and unprecedented, which will mark them deeply.”
Special prayer will unite faithful from all over the world
On July 16, the anniversary of the last apparition of Our Lady to Saint Bernadette Soubirous, the Shrine of Lourdes will promote a special prayer event. Catholics from all over the world will be able to participate through the Internet.
“We will pray in different languages with those who are far away, so that they can also gather around the grotto. We will do this at different times so that people will follow us: in the morning for Asia, at noon for Europe, Africa and the Middle East, and in the evening for the Americas,” explained Msgr. Dumas.
