One of the Arms of the Apostle of Our Lord Jesus Christ

The mortal remains of Saint Jude Thaddeus are usually kept in Saint Peter’s Basilica, in a tomb shared with Saint Simon, another of the 12 apostles, under the high altar of the chapel dedicated to Saint Joseph, on one side of the great central baldachin of the temple.

Part of these relics, specifically one of the apostle’s arms, will arrive in Mexico City on July 28. The pilgrimage will be conducted through Father Valerio di Palma, one of the canons of the Vatican Basilica, on behalf of Cardinal Mauro Gambeti. The cardinal authorized the relics to tour the North American country for a month.

Devotion to this Saint is very great in the country and, despite his feast being on October 28, every 28th of each month, faithful from various regions fill the temple dedicated to him in Mexico City.

Schedule of the Pilgrimage of the Relics through Mexico

The pilgrimage schedule will be as follows: on July 28, the relics will arrive at Mexico City’s airport. From July 29 to 31, they will tour the Primate Archdiocese of Mexico, remaining in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Mexico City.

During the month of August, the mortal remains of the apostle of Our Lord Jesus Christ will tour: San Hipólito (Mexico City); Saint Jude Thaddeus Parish (Cuemanco); Parish of the Immaculate Conception (Tlacopac); Diocese of Azcapotzalco; Archdiocese of Tlalnepantla; Diocese of Cuautitlán; Diocese of Xochimilco; Diocese of Izcalli; Diocese of Ecatepec; Diocese of Nezahualcoyotl; Diocese of Teotihuacán; Diocese of Texcoco; Diocese of Valle de Chalco; Diocese of Tlaxcala; Diocese of Tehuacán; and the Archdiocese of Puebla.

Saint Jude Thaddeus, the Cousin of Jesus

Saint Jude Thaddeus was a cousin of Our Lord Jesus Christ and one of the twelve Apostles. It is believed that he was martyred in Beirut decades after the death and resurrection of Christ. According to Catholic tradition, his body was transferred to a tomb in Saint Peter’s Basilica centuries after his death. His arm was later removed and placed in a reliquary in the shape of a priest’s hand giving a blessing.
