The fire occurred last December 31 and consumed a good part of the church of St. Nicholas. According to estimates, the damage exceeds one million Swiss francs (about 5.2 million reals).

Among the main damage caused is the destruction of the nativity scene, which was in the church during the Christmas period, the floor that was consumed by fire, and the destruction of the high choir and the organ, which is estimated at about 3.6 million reais.

The church has been closed since the occurrence and Masses are celebrated in the parish hall. The residents hope that the church can be reopened as early as the first half of 2023. (FM)
