The aim of this act of faith, in which the participants wore red symbolizing the strength of martyrdom and unconditional dedication to Christ, was to reinforce that ‘this land belongs to God’.

Guanajuato – México 30/01/2025 15:00, Gaudium Press) Last Saturday, January 25, around 38,000 young people from different regions of Mexico went on pilgrimage to the Monument to Christ the King, located on Cerro del Cubilete in the Mexican city of Guanajuato.

The Power of Martyrdom and Unconditional Dedication to Christ

According to Andrea Perea, president of Testimonio y Esperanza (the movement organizing the pilgrimage), the aim of this act of faith was to reinforce that ‘this land belongs to God’. He pointed out that the participants wore red symbolizing the strength of martyrdom and unconditional dedication to Christ.

“Martyrdom is not a human effort, but a response to the divine call, a gift of God’s grace that impels us to live and, if necessary, to give our lives for love of Christ, the Church and others,” he said. He also said that the color red also symbolized those who currently suffer from insecurity, violence and inequality.

Rejuvenating the Church by Working in Unity

Archbishop Jaime Calderón of León presided at a Holy Mass to close the pilgrimage. In his homily, the prelate appealed for unity between young people and the elderly, urging both groups to work together for the good and future of the Catholic Church. “We will rejuvenate our Church to the extent that we build together the path that God, in the times we live in, asks of us,” he said.

Turning to the elderly, the Archbishop stressed that the Catholic Church “will have hope if we manage to hand on the Faith we profess to these new generations and contribute to them, from our own limitations, with everything we can”. As for the young people, Archbishop Calderón urged them not to let pride make them feel that they don’t need others and stressed that we all need the “wisdom, experience and love of our elders”.
