The inauguration of this apostolic nunciature took place on the eve of the second anniversary of Pope Francis’ apostolic trip to Abu Dhabi.

On Wednesday, February 2, Archbishop Edgar Peña Parra inaugurated the new apostolic nunciature in the United Arab Emirates during a Mass celebrated at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Abu Dhabi.
In his homily, the prelate noted that the Catholic community in the Arabian Peninsula is an example of patience, hope and Christian life. The presence of a representative structure of the Holy See is a sign of closeness to the local inhabitants, especially the Catholic community.
Consecrated life
Addressing consecrated life, Arch. Peña Parra remarked that “each part of the Body of Christ, the Church, has a role to play. No part is better or more important than the others.”
He encouraged prayers “for those who have already responded to the Lord’s call, asking the Lord of the harvest to send more workers to His fields.”
“Consecrated life is a reminder of the goodness and love of God our Father. As He has done throughout History and continues to do today, the Lord sees what his children need. He therefore calls men and women to serve the Church and society, encouraging people to embrace different charisms. No charism is identical to another, but each one is a gift from God,” he stressed.

The Archbishop urged Catholics “to give themselves as one body to witness the message of salvation that God offers to the world: a message of good news, peace and hope; a message of freedom for those who are in a condition of oppression or spiritual blindness; a message that offers truth and authentic unity.”
