The French church has been closed for restoration since April 15, 2019, when it was partially destroyed by a fire.
France – Paris (16/08/2022 1:57 PM, Gaudium Press) French culture minister Rima Abdul Malak has assured that Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral, which was partially destroyed by a fire on April 15, 2019, will reopen to the public in the year 2024.
Cleanup phase completed
According to Malak, the cleaning phase of the restoration project has already been completed, allowing the reconstruction phase of the cathedral to begin between June and September this year 2022.
“We are confident that 2024 will be the year in which a large part of this work will be completed, the year in which the cathedral will reopen to the faithful and the public,” Abdul Malak said. The French church has been closed for restoration since the time of the fire.
Reconstruction of the roof, vaults, and tower
At the time of the fire, French President Emmanuel Macron assured us that the cathedral would be rebuilt. He later promised that the cathedral would be reopened to the public by 2024, the year in which the country will host the Olympics.
The restoration of the cathedral is being done according to the design of architect Eugene Viollet-le-Duc. Once the phase of securing and cleaning the interior of the cathedral was completed, the phase of rebuilding the wooden structure of the roof, the vaults, and the 96-meter tower began. (EPC)
