“75 Years of Opus Dei in Portugal”, the new exhibition documenting the Opus Dei work in Portugal will be held in Braga

Portugal – Braga (09/15/2021 13:30, Gaudium Press) Braga will host tomorrow, September 16, the exhibition “75 years on the road,” celebrates three-quarters of a century of Opus Dei presence in Portuguese lands.

The opening will be attended by Archbishop Jorge Ortiga, Primate of Portugal, and Monsignor José Rafael Espírito Santo, Vicar for the Opus Dei in the country. The exhibition will be open for visits until October 2 and will show 14 panels containing previously unknown photographs and some historical objects portraying the Catholic institution’s most important moments in Portugal.

Exhibition and activities

“Throughout the visit it is possible to get to know the story of faith and dedication, work and joy that St. Josemaría and the first members of the Work came to Portugal,” the organizers explained.

After the opening, visitors will be able to participate of various events and activities. On September 16, Fr. Hugo de Azevedo will launch his new book book, “THe Founder of Opus Dei in Portugal: a personal testimony”. On September 25, Joana Bento Rodrigues and Teresa Sarmento iwll give a talk on “The professional and family life of women in a post-pandemic world.”

Opus Dei and Portugal

St. Josemaria Escriva, the founder of Opus Dei, visited Portugal for the first time in 1945. The following year Opus Dei sent its first graduate students to Coimbra. Since then, the Prelature’s activities in Portugal have intensified. (FM)
