Meerab Abbas was kidnapped by a Muslim man named Muhammad Daud, and taken to Baluchistan province, last week. The young girl’s mother has been hospitalized after a nervous breakdown following her daughter’s abduction.
Police have managed to arrest two suspects involved in Meerab’s abduction. However, there is still no clue as to the whereabouts of the young girl.
Local government
“We ask the government to consider kidnappings and forced marriages a serious problem and legislate in favor of minorities, which is essential for the development of the nation,” urged Friar Zahid Augustine, parish priest of Sahiwal.
According to human rights activist Ashiknaz Khokhar, the government has shown no interest in investigating the issue. Khokhar further denounced that the bill on forced conversion was recently rejected by Parliament. (EPC)
