Pope Sends Ambulance to Ukraine, Condemns Armaments

The Vatican has donated an ambulance to the city of Lviv. Cardinal Krajewski, Almoner of His Holiness, left aboard the vehicle to deliver it to Ukrainian authorities.

Newsroom (28/03/2022 8:45 PM Gaudium Press) Pope Francis has blessed and offered an ambulance to Ukraine.

Last Saturday afternoon, March 26, Cardinal Krajewski, apostolic almoner, left for the Ukrainian city of Lviv in an ambulance offered by the Vatican.

The vehicle that will be made available to the Lviv authorities is an offer from Pope Francis to the city’s inhabitants.

Indeed, Lviv has seen an increase in population due to the growing number of refugees who have arrived there.

Second trip to Ukraine

Onboard the ambulance, Cardinal Konrad Krajewski will make his second trip to Ukraine in less than a month.

At the beginning of March, the Polish Cardinal was there to assist refugees from the war.

The Cardinal’s trip comes after he was at the sanctuary of Our Lady of Fatima in Portugal, where he recited the consecration of Ukraine and Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

The sending of the ambulance came in the same week that Francis condemned the strategy of some countries to increase their armaments.

Fewer Weapons and more attention to the human person

According to Francis, war and weapons are not the solutions to solve conflicts. Francis said that the ongoing war in Ukraine is the result of “the old logic of power that still dominates pseudo geopolitics.”

The central problem for Francis is that the world is still seen by the powerful as a “chessboard” to be ruled even to the detriment of others.

So for Francis, the proper response is not in increasing the number of weapons or increasing sanctions. The solution is centred on care and attention to the human person and to Creation as a whole. (FM)
