Since the beginning of the year, several vandalizations have occurred against the city’s catholic churches. The two most recently attacked churches were Our Lady of Loreto and St. Augustine, both located in Paris.
Newsroom (10/03/2023 2:55 PM, Gaudium Press) — According to French media, a man broke into the church of Our Lady around noon and threw a chair at a church board that was damaged.
Two hours later, a man broke into St. Augustine, also in Paris, and threw an image to the ground before fleeing. On March 2, a man broke into St. Eustatius church and threw a chair against the altar.
St. Martin church in Orly, was also invaded and desecrated a few days earlier. An image of Our Lady was beheaded and the ciborium with consecrated host was stolen. The city’s heritage officer, Karen Taieb, announced that the City of Paris considers the acts to be unacceptable. The city has opened a police report and will meet with the necessary authorities and the diocese of Paris to resolve the case of the desecrations. Investigations continue.
