This year’s event was special for the return of the faithful, who for the past two years have been prevented from participating because of restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Newsroom  (08/06/2022 14:41, Gaudium Press) Last Sunday, the Archdiocese of Manaus gathered more than 50 thousand faithful in the Sambadrome of the capital of Amazonas to celebrate the Pentecost Solemnity, one of the most important celebrations of the Catholic Church.

Return of the faithful after two years of pandemic restrictions

This year’s event was special for the return of the faithful, who for the past two years have been prevented from attending because of restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, this was the first time that the local Archbishop Leonardo Steiner, announced on the list of new cardinals to be created by Pope Francis in August, presided over this celebration.

The program began with the welcoming of the faithful. In total, the event was attended by numerous priests, deacons, seminarians, religious congregations, communities, movements, pastoral care, as well as hundreds of volunteers divided into teams throughout the Sambadrome.

Holy Spirit, educate us in love and wisdom

The theme chosen for the celebration this year was “Holy Spirit, educate us in love and wisdom”, in tune with the Fraternity Campaign, which this year had the theme “Fraternity and Education” and the motto “Speak with wisdom, teach with love”.

In his homily, Archbishop Steiner pointed out that “the Holy Spirit that rests in us is the spirit of consolation, and that he sends us as love, consolation, as freedom, as peace. This spirit of consolation is also the spirit of closeness, which knows how to welcome, which knows how to comfort, which knows how to say a word of love.” (EPC)
