Poland – Czestochowa (12/08/2024 09:48, Gaudium Press) The Marian Sanctuary of Our Lady of Czestochowa, one of the most popular in Poland, located in the Jasna Góra monastery, is about to reach a record number of pilgrims this year of 2024.

Before the pandemic, the Sanctuary annually received around 4.5 million pilgrims. The number, which dropped to less than a million, is gradually recovering. In the year 2022, it increased to 2.5 million, and last year it reached 3.6 million. According to information from the press office of this historic Marian pilgrimage site, the Sanctuary is on track to set a new record of pilgrims this year of 2024.

Thousands of pilgrims have already visited the Sanctuary this year

Since May, the beginning of the pilgrimage season, 112 groups of 14 thousand pilgrims have already arrived at the site where the venerated icon of the ‘Black Madonna of Czestochowa’ is located. On August 5, the Metropolitan Academic Pilgrimage of Warsaw was held, attracting around two thousand people. On the same date, the Pilgrimage of People and Families with Disabilities took place.

Other groups have already confirmed their visit to the Marian Sanctuary later this year. Among them are pilgrims on horseback and even on roller skates. Additionally, 161 groups of pilgrims are scheduled to go to the Marian Sanctuary by bicycle, totaling six thousand cyclists.

Great expectations for the coming days

It is also expected that, on the occasion of the Feast of Our Lady of the Assumption, many Catholics from all over the country will make a pilgrimage to Czestochowa. On August 17, the largest group of pilgrims will participate in the ‘Tarnow Walking Pilgrimage,’ which last year totaled almost 5.5 thousand people.

Many pilgrimage groups will depart from all over Poland in the coming days. Some of these pilgrims will travel distances from 560 to 638 kilometers, over 17 to 20 days. The age range of the pilgrims is diverse, including young people, the elderly, and parents with their children. (EPC)
