Newsroom (16/02/2025 Gaudium Press) On February 14th, 2025, Pope Francis appointed two new bishops in Brazil, naming Dom Vítor Agnaldo de Menezes as the Metropolitan Archbishop of Vitória da Conquista (BA) and Monsignor Antônio Ranis Rosendo Dos Santos, C.Ss.R., as the new Bishop of Caicó (RN). These appointments are significant for the expansion of the Catholic Church in Brazil.

Pope Francis Appoints Dom Vítor Agnaldo de Menezes as Archbishop of Vitória da Conquista

Dom Vítor Agnaldo de Menezes, born in Curaçá, Bahia, on June 15, 1968, has been appointed Metropolitan Archbishop of Vitória da Conquista. He brings years of experience within the Catholic Church, having studied Philosophy and Theology and being ordained as a priest in 1998. His episcopal ordination took place in January 2018, after being appointed Bishop of Propriá. His leadership roles include pastoring multiple parishes in Bahia and coordinating regional church activities.

Monsignor Antônio Ranis Rosendo Dos Santos Named Bishop of Caicó

Monsignor Antônio Ranis Rosendo Dos Santos, born on September 3, 1973, in Sergipe, Brazil, is appointed the new Bishop of Caicó (RN). His extensive education in Philosophy, Theology, and Canon Law, along with his commitment to religious life, marks him as a dedicated servant of the Church. Monsignor Ranis has held various roles, including parish priest and formator of religious students, contributing significantly to the growth of the Church in Brazil.

A New Chapter for the Brazilian Church

The appointment of these two bishops reflects Pope Francis’ continued efforts to strengthen the leadership of the Church in Brazil. As the Catholic community grows in the region, these new bishops are expected to bring fresh perspectives and guidance to their dioceses.
