Gaudium Press – On Friday, February 28, Pope Francis marked two weeks of hospitalization at the Agostino Gemelli University Hospital, where he was admitted for the treatment of bilateral pneumonia.

Non-Invasive Mechanical Ventilation

According to the Vatican Press Office, after spending the morning alternating between respiratory physiotherapy and prayer in the chapel, Pope Francis experienced an isolated episode of bronchospasm. This deterioration led to an instance of vomiting with aspiration and a sudden worsening of his respiratory condition. However, the Pope was promptly subjected to bronchial aspiration and placed on non-invasive mechanical ventilation, showing a good response in gas exchanges.
