Vatican City (05/03/2022 7:12 PM, Gaudium Press) The director of the Vatican press office, Matteo Bruni announced on Thursday morning, March 3, that in July 2022, Pope Francis will visit the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan.
Apostolic Trip Scheduled for July
“Welcoming the invitation of the respective heads of state and bishops, the Holy Father Francis will make an Apostolic Journey to the Democratic Republic of Congo from July 2 to 5, visiting the cities of Kinshasa and Goma, and to South Sudan from July 5 to 7, going to Juba,” the Holy See statement said.
Two pontifical trips scheduled for 2022
The programme for the trip has not yet been released. This will be Francis’ second apostolic trip this year, 2022. Another trip already scheduled is the one the Holy Father will make to Malta, in the central Mediterranean region, between April 2 and 3.
Pope Francis’ visits to the African continent
This is not the first time Pope Francis has visited the African continent. In 2015, the Pontiff visited Kenya, Uganda and the Central African Republic, where he opened the Holy Door on the occasion of the Jubilee of Mercy. In 2017, he visited Egypt. In March 2019, he made an apostolic journey to Morocco, and in September of the same year, he visited Mozambique, Madagascar and Mauritius. (EPC)
