The upcoming United Nations climate conference, COP 26, will not count on the presence of Pope Francis.
Newsroom (11/10/2021 11:25 AM Gaudium Press) As Matteo Bruni, spokesman for the Holy See, reported, Pope Francis will not participate in the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 26) in Glasgow, Scotland from October 31 to November 12.
On his behalf, Francis will send a delegation led by the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
In a recent interview with COPE, one of Spain’s leading national radio stations, Francis expressed a desire to attend. “Everything depends on how I will be feeling at that moment. But, in fact, my speech is already being prepared. In principle, the program is that I go,” the Pontiff told Carlos Herrera of COPE.
The news that the Pope will not travel to Scotland casts some shadows of doubt upon other scheduled apostolic trips, such as Cyprus and Greece in December and Lebanon, next year.
