According to the Archdiocese of Paris, the historic French temple is expected to reopen to the public in 2024.

Newsroom – France – Paris (September 23, 2021 9:45 AM Gaudium Press) Last Saturday, September 18, the government agency overseeing the reconstruction of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris announced that the structure of the French temple has been reinforced and is ready to be rebuilt.

Two years of work to preserve the Cathedral’s structure

Efforts to rebuild the Catholic cathedral began soon after the fire on April 15, 2019, when the medieval temple suffered extensive damage, including the destruction of the tower and the oak beams that supported the lead roof.

Over two years, carpenters, scaffolding experts, professional climbers, and organ mechanics worked to preserve the structure with iconic towers and vaults. A special umbrella was also created to protect the cathedral from the weather.

Restoration of Notre Dame’s interior is the Church’s responsibility

With the main structure secure, negotiations will now begin with companies bidding to participate in the reconstruction. The final project has nearly 100 different bids for various projects.

The Archdiocese of Paris launched a multi-million dollar appeal in early June to restore the interior of Notre Dame Cathedral, which is due to reopen in 2024. The renovation of the temple’s interior, which is expected to cost five to six million euros, is the responsibility of the Catholic Church. (EPC)
