São Paulo: Saint Teresa is celebrated in a Carmelite Monastery

Angelo Ademir Mezzari, Auxiliary Bishop of Sao Paulo, Brazil and Episcopal Vicar of Ipiranga Region, presided the Eucharistic celebration.

Newsroom – São Paulo (October 17, 2021, 1:30 PM Gaudium Press) On the occasion of the Solemnity of Saint Teresa of Jesus, celebrated this past Friday, October 15, the Auxiliary Bishop of São Paulo and Episcopal Vicar of the Ipiranga Region, Monsignor Angelo Ademir Mezzari, presided a Holy Mass in the Monastery of the Discalced Carmelite Nuns of Jabaquara in São Paulo.

The celebrants at the ceremony were the parish priest of Santa Rita; Father José Luis de Zayas, of the Heralds of the Gospel; and Father Roberto, who attends to the religious sisters. During the celebration, the choir of the Carmelite Sisters sang several religious songs.

Homily of Monsignor Angelo

In his homily, Bishop Angelo emphasized some aspects of the foundational charisma of St. Teresa of Avila, Virgin and Doctor of the Church, in a time of conflict in Europe, and the missionary scope on the occasion of the discovery of America.

The prelate also highlighted the importance of the Council of Trent and the reforming impulse of religious congregations based on the reform in Carmel undertaken by St. Teresa of Jesus and St. John of the Cross.

Blessing with a relic of the Saint Foundress

At the end of the Holy Mass, Monsignor Angelo Ademir Mezzari gave the blessing with a relic of the Holy Foundress. This blessing was given first to the religious sisters and then to the faithful present in the monastery chapel. (EPC)
